CraveOrganics prides itself on growing high quality organic apples, Asian pears, cherries and pluots. CraveOrganics resides on 170 acres near Royal City, Washington, since 1991 and is still expanding. Initially, the land was planted in alfalfa, but every spring Dain and Garilynn Craver, owners, and their seven daughters planted another 10-15 acres with new trees.
Going organic isn't easy, but the Cravers enjoy the challenges as well as the health and environmental benefits. The orchard is located next to a game preserve which protects it from pesticide drift and also provides habitat for native predators which help keep the orchard free of pests. Dain believes that the best strategy is to treat pests with patience: "Most of the time," he says, "nature will take its course and control the pests."
In 2003, CraveOrganics expanded its operation and developed TAPS (Total Apple Production System). TAPS is the production of organic potted apple trees, designed for urban living. The trees can also be planted in your yard according to your preference. There are two different varieties that were grafted to the root stock. Each pot has 2 different varieties which cross pollinate each other. The purpose of TAPS is to provide everyone with their own access to tree fruit and simplicity.
We pride ourselves on our hard work and reputation for high quality fruit and in securing a future for our farm.
